Eur. 11.6 update)<\/p>\n<p>Benzyl Benzoate Cutaneous Emulsion<\/p>\n<h2>DEFINITION<\/h2>\n<p>Benzyl Benzoate Application is a cutaneous emulsion. It contains 25% w\/v of Benzyl Benzoate in a suitable oil-in-water emulsified basis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Extemporaneous preparation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The following formula and directions apply.<\/p>\n<p>Benzyl Benzoate\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 250 g<\/p>\n<p>Emulsifying Wax\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a020 g<\/p>\n<p>Purified Water, freshly boiled and cooled\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Sufficient to produce 1000 mL<\/p>\n<p>Melt the Emulsifying Wax, add the Benzyl Benzoate and mix. Pour the mixture into sufficient warm Purified Water to produce 1000 mL and stir thoroughly until cold.<\/p>\n<p>The application complies with the requirements stated under Liquids for Cutaneous Application and with the following requirements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Content of benzyl benzoate, C<sub>14<\/sub>H<sub>12<\/sub>O<sub>2<\/sub><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>23.1 to 26.9% w\/v.<\/p>\n<h2>ASSAY<\/h2>\n<p>Carry out the method for liquid chromatography, Appendix III D, using the following solutions.<\/p>\n<p>(1) Dissolve 1 g of the application in sufficient of the mobile phase to produce 100 mL and dilute 1 volume of the resulting solution to 50 volumes with the mobile phase.<\/p>\n<p>(2) 0.0050% w\/v of benzyl benzoate BPCRS in the mobile phase.<\/p>\n<h3>CHROMATOGRAPHIC CONDITIONS<\/h3>\n<p>(a) Use a stainless steel column (20 cm \u00d7 4.6 mm) packed with end-capped octadecylsilyl silica gel for chromatography (10 \u03bcm) (Nucleosil C18 is suitable).<\/p>\n<p>(b) Use isocratic elution and the mobile phase described below.<\/p>\n<p>(c) Use a flow rate of 1.5 mL per minute.<\/p>\n<p>(d) Use an ambient column temperature.<\/p>\n<p>(e) Use a detection wavelength of 230 nm.<\/p>\n<p>(f) Inject 20 \u03bcL of each solution.<\/p>\n<h3>MOBILE PHASE<\/h3>\n<p>30 volumes of water and 70 volumes of acetonitrile.<\/p>\n<h3>DETERMINATION OF CONTENT<\/h3>\n<p>Determine the weight per mL of the application, Appendix V G, and calculate the content of C<sub>14<\/sub>H<sub>12<\/sub>O<sub>2<\/sub>, weight in volume, using the declared content of C<sub>14<\/sub>H<sub>12<\/sub>O<sub>2<\/sub> in benzyl benzoate BPCRS.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Edition: BP 2025 (Ph.
