It gives reaction (b) of acetates (2.3.1).<\/p>\n<p>B. It gives the reaction of zinc (2.3.1).<\/p>\n<h2>TESTS<\/h2>\n<h3>Solution S<\/h3>\n<p>Dissolve 10.0 g in carbon dioxide-free water R prepared from distilled water R and dilute to 100 mL with the same solvent.<\/p>\n<h3>Appearance of solution<\/h3>\n<p>Solution S is clear (2.2.1) and colourless (2.2.2, Method II).<\/p>\n<p><strong>pH (2.2.3)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>5.8 to 7.0.<\/p>\n<p>Dilute 10 mL of solution S to 20 mL with carbon dioxide-free water R.<\/p>\n<h3>Reducing substances<\/h3>\n<p>Boil for 5 min a mixture of 10 mL of solution S, 90 mL of water R, 5 mL of dilute sulfuric acid R and 1.5 mL of a 0.3 g\/L solution of potassium permanganate R.
