Do not disregard the peak due to impurity F.<\/p>\n<h3>Formaldehyde<\/h3>\n<p>Maximum 20 ppm.<\/p>\n<p>Dissolve 0.200 g in 4.0 mL of water R. Add 0.4 mL of dilute sodium hydroxide solution R. Centrifuge, filter the supernatant through cotton previously impregnated with water R and dilute to 5.0 mL with water R. Transfer to a test-tube. Add 5.0 mL of acetylacetone reagent R1. Place the test-tube in a water-bath at 40 \u00b0C for 40 min. The test solution is not more intensely coloured than a standard prepared at the same time and in the same manner using 5.0 mL of a 0.8 ppm solution of formaldehyde (CH<sub>2<\/sub>O), obtained by dilution of formaldehyde standard solution (5 ppm CH<sub>2<\/sub>O) R with water R. Examine the tubes down their vertical axis.<\/p>\n<h3>Water (2.5.12)<\/h3>\n<p>Maximum 0.5 per cent, determined on 0.500 g.<\/p>\n<h3>Sulfated ash (2.4.14)<\/h3>\n<p>Maximum 0.1 per cent, determined on 1.0 g.<\/p>\n<h2>ASSAY<\/h2>\n<p>Dissolve 0.150 g in 15 mL of anhydrous acetic acid R. Add 35 mL of acetic anhydride R. Titrate with 0.1 M perchloric acid, determining the end-point potentiometrically (2.2.20).<\/p>\n<p>1 mL of 0.1 M perchloric acid is equivalent to 30.02 mg of C<sub>14<\/sub>H<sub>15<\/sub>Cl<sub>2<\/sub>NS\u00a0.<\/p>\n<h2>IMPURITIES<\/h2>\n<p>Other detectable impurities (the following substances would, if present at a sufficient level, be detected by one or other of the tests in the monograph.
