The cylinder should carry a label stating \u2018Oxygen\u2019. In addition, \u2018Oxygen\u2019 or the symbol \u2018O<sub>2<\/sub>\u2019 should be stencilled in paint on the shoulder of the cylinder.<\/p>\n<p>When Oxygen is intended for use in a room in which magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is being performed, the cylinder and fittings should be made from suitable non-ferromagnetic materials and labelled accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>O<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a032.00\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a07782-44-7<\/p>\n<h2>DEFINITION<\/h2>\n<h3>Content<\/h3>\n<p>Minimum 99.5 per cent V\/V of O<sub>2<\/sub>.<\/p>\n<p>This monograph applies to oxygen for medicinal use.<\/p>\n<h2>CHARACTERS<\/h2>\n<h3>Appearance<\/h3>\n<p>Colourless gas.<\/p>\n<h3>Solubility<\/h3>\n<p>At 20 \u00b0C and at a pressure of 101 kPa, 1 volume dissolves in about 32 volumes of water.<\/p>\n<h2>PRODUCTION<\/h2>\n<p>Oxygen is produced by a purification process followed by cryodistillation of the ambient air.<\/p>\n<h3>Carbon dioxide<\/h3>\n<p>Maximum 300 ppm V\/V, determined using an infrared analyser (2.5.24).<\/p>\n<p>Gas to be examined: Filter the substance to be examined to avoid stray light phenomena.<\/p>\n<p>Reference gas (a): Oxygen R.<\/p>\n<p>Reference gas (b): Mixture containing 300 ppm V\/V of carbon dioxide R1 in nitrogen R1.<\/p>\n<p>Calibrate the apparatus and set the sensitivity using reference gases (a) and (b). Measure the content of carbon dioxide in the gas to be examined.<\/p>\n<h3>Carbon monoxide<\/h3>\n<p>Maximum 5 ppm V\/V, determined using an infrared analyser (2.5.25).<\/p>\n<p>Gas to be examined: Filter the substance to be examined to avoid stray light phenomena.<\/p>\n<p>Reference gas (a): Oxygen R.<\/p>\n<p>Reference gas (b): Mixture containing 5 ppm V\/V of carbon monoxide R in nitrogen R1.<\/p>\n<p>Calibrate the apparatus and set the sensitivity using reference gases (a) and (b).
