This impurity is controlled by a suitable validated method.<\/p>\n<h2>CHARACTERS<\/h2>\n<h3>Appearance<\/h3>\n<p>White or almost white powder.<\/p>\n<h3>Solubility<\/h3>\n<p>Freely soluble in water, very slightly soluble in ethanol (96 per cent), practically insoluble in methylene chloride.<\/p>\n<h2>IDENTIFICATION<\/h2>\n<p>A. Infrared absorption spectrophotometry (2.2.24).<\/p>\n<p>Comparison: levocetirizine dihydrochloride CRS.<\/p>\n<p>B. It gives reaction (a) of chlorides (2.3.1).<\/p>\n<p>C. Enantiomeric purity (see Tests).<\/p>\n<h2>TESTS<\/h2>\n<h3>Solution S<\/h3>\n<p>Dissolve 2.5 g in carbon dioxide-free water R and dilute to 50 mL with the same solvent.<\/p>\n<h3>Appearance of solution<\/h3>\n<p>Solution S is clear (2.2.1) and not more intensely coloured than reference solution Y7 (2.2.2, Method II).<\/p>\n<h3>pH (2.2.3)<\/h3>\n<p>1.2 to 1.8 for solution S.<\/p>\n<h3>Enantiomeric purity<\/h3>\n<p>Liquid chromatography (2.2.29): use the normalisation procedure.<\/p>\n<p>Solvent mixture diethylamine R, 2-propanol R (0.04:100 V\/V).<\/p>\n<p>Test solution: Dissolve 25.0 mg of the substance to be examined in the solvent mixture, using sonication if necessary, and dilute to 50.0 mL with the solvent mixture.<\/p>\n<p>Reference solution (a): Dissolve 5 mg of cetirizine dihydrochloride CRS in the solvent mixture, using sonication if necessary, and dilute to 10 mL with the solvent mixture.<\/p>\n<p>Reference solution (b): Dilute 1.0 mL of the test solution to 100.0 mL with the solvent mixture.
